Learn About Essential Oils! ♥ Guest Post ♥

Essential Oils –

Have you heard about essential oils? You’ve probably noticed social media posts about them. You might have even seen some of the cute little bottles on sale at a natural food store or craft show. If you give me 10 minutes, I’ll do my best to explain what essential oils can do for you.

Essential oils are very concentrated liquids that are extracted from plants, trees, flowers, and other natural sources. Lesson number one: they are not new! Egyptians, Romans, Greeks, and older civilizations from the Orient and Muslim worlds have all used the nature around them to improve physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. Even today, there are millions of people using essential oils to treat a wide variety of health conditions.

WHY? You can walk into any drug store and buy medications to help your needs. Why use essential oils? I don’t know about you, but I’ve never opened a bottle of Tylenol – and felt instantly relieved by the pure scent of….? What does Tylenol even smell like? Lesson number two: Did you know that your sense of smell is probably your strongest sense?

“Our sense of smell is 10,000 times more sensitive than any other of our senses and recognition of smell is immediate. Other senses like touch and taste must travel through the body via neurons and the spinal cord before reaching the brain whereas the olfactory response is immediate, extending directly to the brain. This is the only place where our central nervous system is directly exposed to the environment.” (von Have, Serene Aromatherapy) http://www.tsbvi.edu/seehear/summer05/smell.htm

Sure, smelling lovely things can make us smile, for a moment… but scents fade and our conditions remain. Lesson number three: Your sense of smell has direct access to your brain!

“Our sense of smell affects the limbic system of our brain. Because the limbic system is directly connected to those parts of the brain that control heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, memory, stress levels, and hormone balance, essential oils can have profound physiological and psychological effects. Our amygdala gland in the brain is where trauma and negative emotions are stored. The only thing that affects this gland to release the trauma and stored negative emotions is our sense of smell. That is why essential oils are the best way to release these.” http://simplyhealthy.homestead.com/

Essential oils can be purchased as “singles” meaning they contain one simple ingredient, let’s say Lemon. Or you could buy “blends” which contain a mixture of several essential oils in one bottle. Citrus Fresh contains Lemon, Tangerine, Bergamot, etc. Each single or blend of essential oils has their own unique benefit or use. It takes time to learn about each oil, but research is fun – especially when it helps you feel better! Essential oils can be applied topically (usually diluted,) taken orally (with appropriate research and knowledge) or simply inhaled! The easiest method is actually also the most direct. Just open up that bottle and take a big deep breath, or 3! While a diffuser in your home is a fantastic investment, a single drop of your favorite essential oil on a cotton ball will also do the trick!

I began using essential oils about 4 years ago, when my missionary friend from Uganda suggested them. At first, I’ll admit I had a hard time believing their abilities, but time and time again, I have been impressed with their potential. Do I think essential oils can cure everything? No… and if my 5 year old falls out of a tree with a broken arm, we’re still going to get in the car and drive to the ER. I’m not going to try using an essential oil! J But on the flip side of that – we always try essential oils first, for every day ailments and emotional needs!

My advice to anyone trying essential oils – is to begin with the basics. If you’ve never opened a bottle of essential oils, don’t try to cure cancer with the first drop! Rather, let’s start with selecting an essential oil that can help you sleep better! … or give you an energy boost late afternoon. Let’s begin with an essential oil that can boost your immune system or help lighten your mood on a trying day. Once you’re rested and feeling a bit better – you can dive into more research and work on the next symptom most important to you.

If you’d like additional information about essential oils, and how you can learn more or get started, please email me and/or join my Facebook group: Essential Oils Can Do That?!

Thank you so much, Amber for everything!

♥ EDS- Stretch Marks? :/ ♥

Hello everyone! I have had this problem for a while now, and i would like to share it with you all to help some of you who may be in the same situation.

When I hear the words “stretch marks” i usually think of what you would see on the belly of a pregnant women, or someone who has lost and/or gained a larger amount of weight.

I never knew I had stretch marks until i went to my Orthopedic doctor and he checked my spine. Days before I had a physical, but it was unnoticed because i was wearing a sports bra and it was covering it. It was a great shock considering i have never seen them and i was only 95 pounds at the time. They were deep and purple also itchy in the middle of my back but i thought nothing of it. At the time they had no clue as to why they were there. Here was my back.. the first ones we noticed.

As a couple weeks past i kept checking to see if there were more. I noticed I had about 10-15 on each bum cheek but they were white and not too bad, so i wasn’t too worried, but kept an eye on them. I would use cocoa butter to try and help them fade and the itchiness.

About 3 months have past and I noticed I had more on my thighs, they are deep red. That’s when they got out of control, covering my thighs in deep red a purple stretch marks that looked like cuts all over my legs. The next day i discovered i had about 20 more stretch marks on my inner legs, they were kind of sore, so i continue to put cocoa butter all over my legs.

As I would look i got more and more every single day at least 5 smaller ones or so. They are now spreading down to my knees and calves and up the bottom of my back a bit. I continue to put on the cocoa butter to help sooth the soreness and itchiness and hope for them to fade.

Having stretch marks is one of my biggest insecurities, I hate showing my legs because of them. Most people my age doesn’t have them… especially like this. I usually wear jeans all year around or athletic pants. I’m currently trying out an essential cream specially for stretch marks. So keep an eye out! I’ll post updates as the cream hopefully works!

Thank you all for staying with me and liking my blog, as i was out for a little bit due to some more health issues and appointments. Lookout for those as well! I’m back and hopefully I will stay like this lol .

♥ Chronic Illness – How to make a car ride more comfortable! ♥

♥ How to make a car ride more comfortable! ♥

( Links will be at the bottom of the page)

Back support!

I never realized how important back support in the car is for us with back problems. My back is always achy and full of pain, this back support fits to my back in all the right places! They have multiple different kinds but i’m using this “lumbar back support” Prices range on where you look. The ones on Walmart website is half the price of Amazons But Amazon has more choices. It just depends on what you would be comfortable with and what would help!

Go Lumbar Support for Car | Super Soft Comfortable Easy Posture Solution for Back Pain n Poor Posture | Properly Aligns Spine to Ease Lower Back Pain | Cool Breathable Mesh Mostly Fit Any Cars | 533.4

Head and Neck support!

On long road trips I always seem to fall asleep. Because of all my joints i just can’t get comfortable or wake up regretting laying in that position! By using this it will keep your neck more stable and comfortable! I personally believe one like below would be the best, or even with micro-beads! Sometimes the filling on others can be uncomfortable and hard. You can find these many places! Just giving you an idea!

Compact Neck Pillow For Travel – Amazon.com

Micro-bead shaped U neck pillow! – Amazon.com

On long car rides in the passenger seat or in the back I like covering myself with a blanket. It keeps me warm, relaxes, and comforts me! Just a tiny fleece or flannel throw blanket for those times when you need it, can come in handy for many things! Also! Us with chronic illness a lot of times our body temperature fluctuates from hot to cold! There is never a in between (lol). I personally would look on Amazon.com they have many different choices for good prices! They make ones for all ages!! (Hint) Possible DIY coming soon! Keep an eye out!! 🙂

Everyone loves push toys! Especially the younger ones! It’s always good for them to connect with something that they can carry around and take with them! A little bit of home in a soft plush and the bear pillow has hand warmers!

♥ A Cause Worth Your Attention ♥

Hello everyone! Today I would like to talk about another Strong Zebra that needs our help!

Samantha Smith

Samantha Smith is a 30 year old single mother of two beautiful children. In December of last year, after years of pain and about 8 years of on going tests, misdiagnosis’s and ill health, Samantha was finally diagnosed with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS). She was strong and independent up until January 2017, that’s when her world flipped upside down. She said “started to lose consciousness regularly, vomit blood, experience extreme head pain, multi organ involvement, chest pain and weakness in my limbs.” In March of 2017 Samantha had gotten bad news.. She was told she had Crainocervical Instability (CCI).

In her words “CCI means that the ligaments in the neck are too stretched and weakened to support my head. This is causing the top of my spine to squash my brain stem under the weight of my skull. My spine is compressing my spinal cord. My cervical discs are damaged and prolapsing. I feel the relentless agony of it every minute of the day in addition to the nerve damage.”

Now she faces many obstacles, her EDS makes her resistant to local anesthetics and many analgesics making pain relief not work.

She is trying to enjoy her life as everyday is getting tougher and tougher. She said “it’s incredible how my children’s laughter can relieve the pain for a fleeting moment.”

In this harsh reality, If she doesn’t raise money to get this surgery here in the States  it will cause organ failure, paralysis and then it will take her life. Savannah tells how it feels from her POV “I am in constant pain in my neck, head and spine and week in, week out my neurological damage is becoming harder to ignore. My body goes into shock if I stand for more than a few minutes and I have tachycardia, tremors, and visual/hearing disturbances.”

There are no surgeons qualified to operate on an EDS patient in the UK.

Savannah – “myself and my family have spent the last 8 years fighting and funding private care to get the answers I needed. Now, I find myself in the powerless situation where I can no longer work, run a business or pay for the lifesaving surgery I so desperately need.”

She only has a little while to raise £150,000 for the operation here in the US. A US surgeon who has developed a method to successfully complete this treatment on an EDS patient has a 95% success rate!

Please help Samantha to reach her goal so she can get this life saving surgery and continue to care and provide for her children.

She is almost there! We can do this!

♥ Annabelle’s ♔ Challenge ♔ Charity ♥

♔ Annabelle’s Challenge Charity ♔

Hello everyone! Today I want to talk about something more serious. For my next couple posts i’m going to talk about people who are having great difficulties with EDS and could use some help!

As I was searching the internet trying to find out more about my illness I came across many wonderful and brave people going through tough times, one of them being Annabelle!

Annabelle has Vascular Ehlers- Danlos Syndrome (EDS). She was diagnosed at the young age of three after a series of three months in-depth testing.

Vascular EDS is one of the most serious of the illnesses, It weakens her collagen and puts her at risk for arterial or organ rupture. If she were to tear an artery she would face bigger obstacles such as – internal bleeding, stroke, shock, and in the seriousness of this disease, death. Vascular EDS is the leading cause of death within this serious illness.

Even going through such a serious problem, Annabelle and her family started a charity to help those With EDS vascular disorders! I’s amazing to see people coming together from all over the world to help and support one another.  If you want to know more abut Annabelle and her charity links are below! If we can come together and assist them to spread awareness that would be awesome!

Annabelle’s Website! – https://www.annabelleschallenge.org/
